July 2017 Newsletter

Hello and Welcome To Summer!

The GPH crew hopes you all had a happy 4th of July and that your pets got through all the fireworks safe and sound.

This month is bringing a lot of activity to GPH.  We are attending our first equestrian event as exhibitors the famous “Event at Rebecca Farms”.   This is a world class 3 day Eventing challenge.  The best of the best will be there and we are so excited to be sharing the GPH line of products with the horse world. If you are attending, please stop by the booth and say hi. We will also be in Gonzales Texas for an event there, including a 400 rider barrel race.  We are super excited about that one as well!

July has its share of fun in the sun activities… what do you do with your animals in the summer time?  Swim, hike, bike, or just hang out.  We would love to hear about your adventures on our Facebook page, here for dogs:
https://www.facebook.com/glacierpeakholistics/ and here for horses: https://www.facebook.com/GPHhorses/

Taking the horses to the mountains is my very favorite thing to do in the summer.  Smelling the pine trees, taking a dip in the high mountain lakes, sleeping under the stars… I feel so blessed to be able to live in such a place as this, where it’s all right out my back door.

Did you know that July is National Dog House Repair Month?  Who Knew?
Also in July we have National Lost Pet Prevention Month all month long. How do you protect your pet from getting lost if there is an emergency in your home or running from fear of fireworks and smoke?  Keep your pets safe this month and every month. July 15th is National Pet Fire Safety Day, which is also an awareness call for “what to do in case of an emergency”.  It’s always better to have a plan before you need one.

July 21st is National Craft for your local Shelters Day.  Are you crafty?  Do you have something you could share with those dogs still looking for their forever family? And last but not least is my personal favorite, National Mutt Day on July 31st.  As I always have pound puppies at my house, the mutts get a gold star on this day!

We are very excited to share a testimony from Kiana in California.  Kiana was our very first customer to do an Equine Wellness Life Stress Scan.  She was thrilled with the results and so was her horse Doc!  Also we welcomeBark2Basics from Missouri into our Retail Spotlight.  It is truly a pleasure to work with Jill and Christine as they have such a passion for helping animals live their best life.

We sure hope you are enjoying your summer and we look forward to hearing from you on Facebook.

Happy Trails,
Deb, Ellia and Kri

Customer Testimonial

pet allergy testing
Kiana from Sacramento, CA wrote us recently to let us know how her horse Doc and dog Danti are doing since getting their Pet Wellness Life Stress Scan andEquine Wellness Life Stress Scan results and started them both on the suggestedGPH Protocol.  When she speaks of  "all the kids" she is referencing the other dogs and  horses that she's rescued.

Doc and Danti are both doing wonderful.  I have cut back Danti's Temoral-P and his skin is looking very healthy again.   Doc has quit chewing on his chest and leg.   I am so happy I could just bust with joy.  Now that the horses are off all the *commercial senior feed they are all looking much better and are eating less because there is no waist in oats and it fills them up and stays with them   Less horse piles to pick up also.  I am so in love with Glacier Peak and all you have done for Doc, Danti, and all the kids.  For months on Danti and years on Doc they are now getting relief and Danti is playing with his toys and running around  again because he is feeling so much healthier.   Doc, as the old cowboy says, is feeling his oats.  Much happier and is no longer feeling plagued by all the itching, which he did most of the time every day.

For myself, I am one happy pet Mom knowing my four legged kids are much happier.  That is all I want for them and what they deserve in life.   Thank you so much. Kiana

*Side Note: Kiana substituted the commercial senior feed with GPH's special recipe:
2 cups crimped oats
1/4 cup Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 cups freshly ground flax seeds
1 scoop Daily Defense

Why did you open up an Independent Pet Store?  Is it something you always wanted to do?

We had both wanted to own our own business and met while working at another independent pet store in town. The owner closed the store and we decided to open our own venture.  Christine was new to the pet industry but with years of customer service and many pets in her life and was intrigued with the products and information available to help pets and their people.  I had been in customer service in both the retail pet industry and veterinary medicine since I was sixteen and knew I wanted to be my own boss and help animals and their pet parents.  The old store closed on October 11, 2015 and we found a space, remodeled it, stocked it and were open on December 21, 2015.  A whirlwind for sure but so rewarding!

Bark 2 Basics Pet Store
What do you feel is unique about your store?

We offer a wide variety of natural foods, treats, supplements, safe toys and accessories. We are the only retailer in our area to offer the Life Stress Scan and follow up counseling to find appropriate foods for the pet.  We also pride ourselves in our friendly, knowledgeable customer service. We have just one location so far and just two part time employees, very highly trusted, knowledgeable gals who love animals and share our commitment to our clientele.  Our dogs come to work with us most days so there is usually a canine greeter working and people love it!

What seems to be the main concerns of the pet parents that walk into your store?

The health, happiness and longevity of their pets. Everything ranging from an interactive toy to entertain their pet while they work to joint supplements to ease arthritis.  We do quite a bit of allergy work and will track down a food that fits, saving the pet parent hours of research and tracking things down.  We stock many types of diets to suit most every need.

Inside Bark to Basics

Do you have a success story to share about how the GPH Pet Wellness Life Stress Scan and/ or products have helped a dog or cat get back into balance?

We have many success stories with the scan but two that are very personal. Christine's dog, Cash, a shih poo, had always had digestive issues, itchy skin, ear infections and anal gland problems since he was a puppy. She tried salmon to soothe the skin, but after the scan learned he was sensitive to it! He has been on his revised diet for over a year and so much happier and healthier.  My retired racing greyhound, Petey, suddenly developed diarrhea at age 10 1/2 that would not go away even with medication so I tested him. Within two weeks of the diet change he was back to normal and loves his new foods.  Both boys work as greeters at the store and we show their scan results to people who have pets with issues--we keep the sheets behind the counter for easy retrieval..

Do you have a Holistic Vet that you refer people to if needed?

Yes, a veterinary chiropractor has moved into town and he and his staff send pets to us for testing and we send pets to them that could benefit from their services. We maintain a good relationship with all the vets in town, both holistic and traditional.

Do you work with any local animal charities?

We work with many local pet charities from donating food, hosting adoption events and collecting money for them.  We hope to increase our involvement with the groups as time passes.  Nothing excites us more than someone finding their forever home!

What are your plans for the future?

Continue to serve our customers and their pets at our current level of service.  We would love to expand into other locations to help reach more pets!
