August Newsletter 2018

Hello,

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  It’s so hard to believe that the summer is over already. I really hope you had time to spend outside with your pets during the summer.  Remember, a bad day with a dog is better than a fantastic day without one!

The new warehouse is coming right along.  Soon we’ll be in our new offices and have our warehouse under the same roof as the office staff.  It’s so exciting to see this little company grow into something as important as it has become.

September is "Happy Healthy Cat Month," we can help you with your feline friend and health issues, just have a look at our cat products as well as our essential oils by AnimalEO and Dr. Melissa Shelton, DVM.  September 9th is "National Pet Memorial Day." We have so many from our past that continue to be a big part of our lives even though they’ve crossed the rainbow bridge.  Also on September 9th we have "National Hug your Hound Day."  Kreiger and Ellia get hugs daily, from the whole staff here at GPH.

September 22nd is the official day of Autumn.  A season change is the ideal time to boost your pet's immune system. Peak Immune was designed to do just that.  This month we are offering Peak Immune at a 20% off savings to encourage you to super charge your pet's immune system to keep them healthy during the months ahead.

In the Retail Store Spotlight, we are delighted to feature Dee-O-Gee Premium Pet Stores in BozemanDee-O-Gee recently changed hands.  We hope you enjoy reading about  the new owners
Eric and Dr. Jane Mittelsteadt  and their knowledgeable staff.

Now that it’s cooling off and hopefully the forest fires are dying down, we begin to think about hot chocolate and bon fires.  I so love living in a place with 4 full seasons.  All of which bring their own special beauty into our lives.

September Special

As the seasons change, so do the bodies of  every animal on the  planet.
Season change is the perfect time to give a little extra support to our pet's immune systems.  After all,  we work them pretty  hard with the current environmental and food toxicities  that  we  just can't get away from.  A healthy immune system helps  them  ward  off parasite  overload and  keeps them strong  for work or  play.

One of the best parts of our day at Glacier Peak Holistics is reading the

Blossom, 2 yr old Pembroke Welsh Corgi, has been taking Daily Defense her whole life!! She also took the HerbAprin as a puppy when she was teething.  I ran the Life Scan when she was almost 1yr so that I could help her have a better life without as many inflammatory triggers. GPH has been amazing for us!! -Julianne R

Mochi is my 13 year old Shih Tsu and alive today because of you Glacier Peak Holistics! He had several food allergies and through your scan we eliminated the grains and poultry and he’s healthy again! Thanks!!

The Mittelstead Family

A little bit about Dr. Jane:
I graduated from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1988. Worked in a small animal practice in Hartford, WI for 5 years before moving to work as an emergency veterinarian at a 24 hour emergency /referral practice.  I worked their for 4 years and then chose to move to Montana to raise our kids in the Mountains.  I worked for 2 years at a local small animal practice in Bozeman before purchasing 360 Pet Medical in 2009. I operated 360 Pet Medical until 2015 when I sold it to focus on my family.

I have continued to do relief work in and around the Gallatin Valley and this year purchased the Dee-O-Gee Bozeman stores.  I became certified in acupuncture in 2005 from Colorado State University and am currently enrolled in a Chinese/ Holistic nutrition course.  I look forward to working with the customers at Dee-O-Gee to help them utilize food and supplements to obtain the best life for their pets.

Why did you open an Independent Pet Store?  Is it something you always wanted to do?

I am a veterinarian with a strong interest in nutrition as a way to treat and more importantly prevent disease.  I sold my practice in Bozeman, Montana in 2015,  to spend more time with my family. I have been doing house call acupuncture and herbals as well as in the Gallatin Valley. Eric, my husband, was an independent sales representative. We saw the Dee-O-Gee opportunity and felt it would be a good way to combine our unique talents to serve the Gallatin Valley's pets and their people.  We are big believers in giving back to the community and are excited to be part of an organization with strong community roots.

What do you feel is unique about your store?
We carry a variety of different foods to fit all types of owners and their pets.  In addition, our customer service is second to none.  We pride ourselves on having knowledgeable staff with regards to nutrition and supplements, so they are able to answer all types of questions confidently.

What seems to be the main concerns of the pet parents that walk into your store?
I think the biggest concern of the pet parents is the health of their pets.  They want to do all they can to provide their pet the best care they can whether that it is thru nutrition, supplements or toys and ways to enjoy spending time together.

Do you have a Holistic Vet that you refer people to if needed?
This is a tricky question. We try to refer clients back to their regular veterinarian with questions.  If their veterinarian is not versed in a modality of veterinary medicine the customer is interested in we try to make that connection for them.  Personally I  can offer acupuncture and herbal consults in the home and we have several other veterinarians that are able to offer chiropractic and physical rehabilitation.

Do you work with any local animal charities?
We work closely with our local animal shelter, Heart of the Valley, as well as other shelters in the surrounding communities such as Stafford Animal Shelter.  Going forward, we hope to provide more services to the smaller communities that are undeserved currently.

What are your plans for the future?
We hope to continue to grow the stores and continue to offer great products and  knowledgeable staff.  We would like to listen to Bozeman pet owners on what they would like us add or offer as our store grows. As new owners of the business in June 2018, we look forward to being a part of the stores and getting to know all our great customers.
