The Mittelstead Family
A little bit about Dr. Jane:
I graduated from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1988. Worked in a small animal practice in Hartford, WI for 5 years before moving to work as an emergency veterinarian at a 24 hour emergency /referral practice. I worked their for 4 years and then chose to move to Montana to raise our kids in the Mountains. I worked for 2 years at a local small animal practice in Bozeman before purchasing 360 Pet Medical in 2009. I operated 360 Pet Medical until 2015 when I sold it to focus on my family.
I have continued to do relief work in and around the Gallatin Valley and this year purchased the Dee-O-Gee Bozeman stores. I became certified in acupuncture in 2005 from Colorado State University and am currently enrolled in a Chinese/ Holistic nutrition course. I look forward to working with the customers at Dee-O-Gee to help them utilize food and supplements to obtain the best life for their pets.
Why did you open an Independent Pet Store? Is it something you always wanted to do?
I am a veterinarian with a strong interest in nutrition as a way to treat and more importantly prevent disease. I sold my practice in Bozeman, Montana in 2015, to spend more time with my family. I have been doing house call acupuncture and herbals as well as in the Gallatin Valley. Eric, my husband, was an independent sales representative. We saw the Dee-O-Gee opportunity and felt it would be a good way to combine our unique talents to serve the Gallatin Valley's pets and their people. We are big believers in giving back to the community and are excited to be part of an organization with strong community roots.
What do you feel is unique about your store?
We carry a variety of different foods to fit all types of owners and their pets. In addition, our customer service is second to none. We pride ourselves on having knowledgeable staff with regards to nutrition and supplements, so they are able to answer all types of questions confidently.

What seems to be the main concerns of the pet parents that walk into your store?
I think the biggest concern of the pet parents is the health of their pets. They want to do all they can to provide their pet the best care they can whether that it is thru nutrition, supplements or toys and ways to enjoy spending time together.

Do you have a Holistic Vet that you refer people to if needed? This is a tricky question. We try to refer clients back to their regular veterinarian with questions. If their veterinarian is not versed in a modality of veterinary medicine the customer is interested in we try to make that connection for them. Personally I can offer acupuncture and herbal consults in the home and we have several other veterinarians that are able to offer chiropractic and physical rehabilitation.
Do you work with any local animal charities?
We work closely with our local animal shelter, Heart of the Valley, as well as other shelters in the surrounding communities such as Stafford Animal Shelter. Going forward, we hope to provide more services to the smaller communities that are undeserved currently.

What are your plans for the future?
We hope to continue to grow the stores and continue to offer great products and knowledgeable staff. We would like to listen to Bozeman pet owners on what they would like us add or offer as our store grows. As new owners of the business in June 2018, we look forward to being a part of the stores and getting to know all our great customers.
